A Visit to Georgetown

It's time to talk about the weather here. When the sun shines it is bright and glorious but it is subject to cloud and bursts of rain. Today it was it was the latter and the day we had off to travel the island. This downpour lasted quite a while. It's also the day the young people went for a trip to another island. Two nights ago there was a thunder and lightening storm that sent Buzz almost to the ceiling. Any and all forecasts can be doubted.

Our trip took about an hour and a half all of it twisty and turning. Our driver was exceptional so we all managed to feel safe and relaxed. Look closely and you'll see another island in the distance.

There has been a lot of roadside clearing this week. We see teams using machetes, rakes, shovels to clear the banks and ditches. Later a truck comes by to pick up the clippings. This is done twice a year: Christmas and before school starts. The workers are paid by the government and earn $35EC a day.

We've reached our destination; the church where the assembly of Georgetown meets within a few feet of the coastline.

The waters are brisk today. It was a little tricky to get any closer. Buzz already had his suit on before we said 'no'. Woody is not a swimmer, believe it or not.

The building has had recent upgrading: plastered walls, washroom, the beginnings of a kitchen and sleeping area.

And new benches all made by one of the men.

These flowers come out with the sun.

Markus, or was it Buzz, managed to get this fellows attention with incessant bleating. He can look in at us while we were in the church.

This will give you an idea of how much rain we had this morning.

Someone is waving at you. I think it's Cephus.

These are pigeon peas and they are edible.

We're arrived in town and there's Rick waving us down.  Look for bright orange. Rick knew the restaurant and was counting on fried chicken. It took over an hour to arrive on the table but it was a good meal and reasonable at less than $30EC pe person.

You never know who you'll meet up with.

What do you think? Is Buzz ready to fight or run?

Buzz is ready to dig into salad, king fish, plantain, coconut dumpling, mixed vegetables, and rice with peas (actually black beans).

Lush, dense vegetation throughout the island. Banana plantations,  coconut trees, palm trees, some coffee, mangoes, all sun ripened. The bananas are bagged in vented blue bags to keep them from the harmful bugs.

Dear Family, We have news for you all....
