An Unexpected Welcome to St. Vincent
Bumping into Crafton, Joyce and Felicity was a wonderful welcome to the Islands. With Andy and Debbie being delayed we were't sure who would give directives but certain it wouldn't be us.
Another unexpected welcome came from an Islander who shook our hand and said 'Hi, my name is Jack; you don't know me but I know you!' Then the couple with him told him he had the wrong people. We had such a good laugh and felt thoroughly welcomed to the beautiful island of St. Vincent.
And finally, Buzz and Woody have been reunited and they have a new friend Felicity. All the children ave very endearing with their large bright eyes and creative hairstyles. It isn't long before they warm up to us and our very white skin.
Our hotel is located in the town of Montrose which is north of the capital city Kingstown. We are on the southwest portion of the island.
From here we drive about 30 minutes to Layou where the camp grounds are located. The locals agree it is hot. Most of the food served mid-day are familiar to all of us: rice, mac & cheese, chicken, fresh veggies, and potato salad (I think). But there was plantain as well, sweet potato and yam which tasted different and were unfamiliar in colour. Apparently there are many varieties of yams etc. There was no shortage of food for the approx. 130 people.
This picturesque view is taken from our balcony.
