Last day in St. Vincent

By the time we had finished the mid day meal there were many on their way island homes. Crafton and Joyce and Felicity are leaving late tonight and had the afternoon to tour new parts of St. Vincent. Having lived here years ago Crafton knew some of the sights.

Very close to the camp site we came across some ruins. This is likely a chimney from an old sugar cane furnace. St. Vincent was a large producer of sugar cane in the past.

This lovely beach site was also close by. Many had taken the time to walk from the camp grounds. There is a cliff to the right that the young people couldn't get enough of.

Now we are heading back to our hotel but taking a long route. This was likely a living accommodation on a sugar cane plantation.

It's hard to imagine just how big this wheel is!

The water in St. Vincent is entirely safe.  This was a fast moving creek that did in fact, look very fresh.

There are many lovely homes with beautiful manicured properties on this island.

Along our way we traveled the area where Crafton and his family once lived. They were able to greet their neighbour and have a quick 'hello'.

Further along and climbing up another mountain we came to Fort Charlotte. This dates back to the 1760's when the island and neighbouring islands were being fought over by the French and the British. Sugar cane and exotic spices were highly sought after.

Woody's imagination took over and he's enjoying being the commander of the cannons.

At over 6000 feet elevation the view is expansive.

This is an overview of Kingstown, again from the fort.

The cannons aren't over large but cannons they are.
We nearly go blown off our feet it was so windy.

We had to drive through this tunnel to get to the grounds. We barely scrapped through.

One building had paintings entirely around the walls depicting the history of St. Vincent.

Looks like Buzz and Woody are taking on a new life on the Island.

Tomorrow we will be flying back to Trinidad. We've convinced B&W that they should stick with us for more adventures. We all have fond memories of this exceptional week with friends from so many of the islands.
